Action Steps 2/1/17

IL-9 Action Steps

Things To Do This Week to Resist from IL-9

Learn More - Racial Justice Issues

The Chicago Chapter of Showing Up for Racial Justice (SURJ) is meeting on Thursday, February 9, from 6:30-8:30 p.m. Whether you’re new to racial justice work or looking to build on past actions, all are welcome to attend this meeting. Attendees will discuss ways to get engaged in local racial justice work, including emerging campaigns and post-inauguration initiatives.

Add Your Name - Petitions

Are you appalled by the president’s executive action that is affecting vetted refugees to the United States, in particular those of Muslim faith? Add your name to this petition from MoveOn.org and demand that the full United States Congress reject this Muslim ban. While our federal representatives have strongly denounced the action, many others across the country have remained silent.

Raise Your Consciousness - Issues to Know About

The president has signed an executive action that advances construction on the Dakota Access Pipeline (DAPL) near the Standing Rock Indian Reservation in North Dakota. Learn about indigenous activism and the water protectors standing against the pipeline at “NoDAPL and the Future of Indigenous Organizing,” a program from from the Buffett Institute of Global Studies at Northwestern on Tuesday, February 7, from 7-8:30 p.m.

Join us to figure out how we make next year better!

We can't sit back and let Congress and/or the Illinois General Assembly turn back all the gains we have made in the past decades.

On Saturday January 7th join me, State Senator Heather Steans, Alderman Harry Osterman, State Rep. Kelly Cassidy and Committeewoman Carol Ronen for a community forum to hear what is happening in Washington, Springfield and Chicago, and learn what concrete steps you can take right now to have your voice heard and make a difference.

We can put 2016 behind us. But we can't stop fighting for all those things that brought us to the table. A woman's right to choose, affordable health care, equal rights. just to name a few priorities.  We have a lot at stake and we need to act.
