Join us to figure out how we make next year better!
We can't sit back and let Congress and/or the Illinois General Assembly turn back all the gains we have made in the past decades.
On Saturday January 7th join me, State Senator Heather Steans, Alderman Harry Osterman, State Rep. Kelly Cassidy and Committeewoman Carol Ronen for a community forum to hear what is happening in Washington, Springfield and Chicago, and learn what concrete steps you can take right now to have your voice heard and make a difference.
We can put 2016 behind us. But we can't stop fighting for all those things that brought us to the table. A woman's right to choose, affordable health care, equal rights. just to name a few priorities. We have a lot at stake and we need to act.
I won't even try to sugarcoat what happened on Election Day. It was the most shocking and disappointing Presidential election in my lifetime.
I waited to communicate with you, after getting some sleep and going from despair to fierce determination to battle on.
And that is why I want to thank you from the bottom of my heart for enabling me to serve another term as Congresswoman and to fight another day. Even my race got pretty ugly, but our 2-1 victory was decisive!
Team Schakowsky was utterly amazing. We contributed mightily to victories for Senator-elect Tammy Duckworth and Brad Schneider, who will now return to Congress from Illinois' 10th District. In the fundraising effort led by the fantastic Sarah Gersten, I was able to contribute to 63 campaigns around the country and travel to many of them. THANK YOU for responding to our many requests!
And, of course, we played a major role in Hillary Clinton's race. I consider her "our Moses,” leading us to the promised land of a woman President. Even though she did not cross over herself, I will be ever grateful to her.
We are proud of what we did. Under the leadership of my Political Director, Ben Head, our eight campaign staffers working in nine offices throughout the district--along with our 30+ amazing high school interns and 5 volunteer organizers--recruited over 4,000 volunteers, and sent an additional 1,502 volunteers to Wisconsin and Iowa, where they knocked over 60,000 doors! Here in Illinois, our team made 514,483 phone calls and knocked on 84,542 doors!
We plan to keep this army of progressives on active duty--starting now--no gap. There will be many critical issues on which we must be present in the days and weeks to come and the 2018 elections are just around the corner. You will be hearing more from me on this very soon.
Again, thank you for your support. Together we will go forward.
